Score 93/100 · Drink 2018-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2017

Dark red cherry and a host of mineral mineral/soil inflected notes give the 2015 Pinot Noir Widdoes much of its distinctive personality. Brooding and intense, but with striking mid-palate intensity, the 2015 is remarkably expressive for a wine that was just bottled a few weeks before this tasting. These 40-50 year-old Martini clone Pinot vines give the Widdoes its exotic aromatic presence and distinctive personality. Of all the Capiaux Pinots, this is the wine I personally admire the most.

Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2023, Robert Parker, Dec 2016

The 2015 Pinot Noir Widdoes Vineyard, which comes from the cold Green Valley sub-region of the Russian River, sees a lot of new oak by Capiaux’s standards (65%). The wine displays a touch of smoky spice, almost barbecue-like notes in the background, but there’s great fruit – black cherries, blackcurrants, and hints of floral and forest floor notes. This complex, multi-dimensional Pinot Noir is irresistible already but promises to drink well for another 5-7 years.
