Score 90-93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Dec 2016

(these vines yielded just 26 hectoliters per hectare): Bright red with ruby tones. Superripe, liqueur-like raspberry, strawberry and red licorice on the nose. Silky and supple on the palate but also with lovely lift and precision to its flavors of red berries, spices and wild herbs. There's a firm spine of acidity here but this wine comes across as much less tight today than the Clos Saint-Jean owing to its buffering flesh. Finishes with a restrained sweetness and subtle floral and spicy high notes. Impeccably balanced wine with plenty of stuffing to buffer its tannins.
