Tasting notes
Green-tinged, slightly hazy color. Highly nuanced aromas of lime, minerals, nutmeg, smoke, grilled nuts and lees. Huge on entry, then quite muscular and powerful in the middle palate, if a bit unwieldy today. Very dry, concentrated wine from tiny berries. Big, rich chardonnay with uncompromisingly dry flavors of minerals, white grapefruit and citrus skin. Not quite as suave as the Hyde bottling, though.

Although still backward, the 2003 Chardonnay Alder Springs Vineyard is a fine white. A liqueur of stone-like character gives this wine presence and nobility. Full-bodied and intense, with notions of citrus oils and tropical fruits along with tremendous purity and crisp acidity, this deep, textured, full-throttle, impeccably-balanced Chardonnay can be enjoyed over the next 3-5 years.
