Very dark brown with yellow rim. Light tangy, treacly nose. Very sweet and sticky indeed. Slightly low acid but there is astringency on the finish to keep it lively. Syrup of figs style. Some drying quality on the end. Seems more sweet than alcoholic. (JR)

With a deep brown color giving a distinctly green hue to the rim, the NV ‘Merchant Prince’ Muscat has a profoundly intense scent of plum pudding, raisin cake and stewed figs plus a hint of roasted coffee beans and preserved walnuts. The palate is tooth achingly sweet but like the ‘Isabella’ has the acidity to carry it off. Very thick and rich with an epic, long, gooey raisin finish – this is one for the super-tasters! These fortified wines are all bottled to drink now. The extended solera aging process has rendered them relatively stable to changes and they can be stored for a good number of years. Muscat à Petit Grains Rouge (also known as Rutherglen Brown Muscat) from Campbells' own Rutherglen vineyards. Fruit is left to ripen on the vine until as late as possible. Juice is fermented for only a very short time before being fortified with neutral spirit and matured in oak. The oldest base wine is well over 60 years old. Very dark walnut colour. More perfumed than the previous two wines. Sweet and raisined but also more perfumed on the palate. A little fresher than the Morris Old Premium.  (JH)
