Tasting notes
(due to frost damage, Colin made just 4 barrels of Vergers, vs. a normal 15): Bright yellow. Ripe peach, menthol and crushed stone on the nose; more about minerals and earth than primary fruit. Supple, easygoing wine with a glyceral texture and a lightly saline quality but could use a bit more cut. Finishes broad and slightly aggressive, with a suggestion of honey. This wine actually comes across as drier than most of Colin's other 2016s and yet it's carrying two grams per liter of residual sugar. It clearly demonstrates the effects of frost.

Lightly nutty nose and rather refined chalkiness on the finish. Definitely the most sprightly of the four wines from this address shown by Flint. (JR)
The 2016 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Vergers comprises of just four barrels in this vintage, one-quarter of the usual crop and obviously one of the most affected by the frost (along with Chenevottes). Still, there is good intensity on the nose with bright citrus fruit laced with orange zest and touches of almond, the oak lending a bit of heft. The palate is taut and linear with a light reduction on the entry, quite candied in the mouth, although I found that reduction a little too conspicuous on the finish and rendering it a little generic in style. I will be interested to revisit this once in bottle.
(just 12 hectoliters per hectare produced; aging in 25% new oak): Bright, light yellow. Very ripe peach and pear aromas are complicated by spicy vanillin oak. Dry and savory, showing good intensity but a slightly aggressive character to its apple and spice flavors. Atypically disjointed in the early going for this wine, and hard to assess. Finishes with a slight bitter edge. Colin says that these vines suffered from the frost.
