Tasting notes
Aging in new barrels, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach Vineyard is cut from the same cloth and offers a touch more exuberance and depth than the 2015. Blueberries, scorched earth, chocolate, violets, and loads of minerality all give way to a rich, concentrated 2016 that has fabulous purity and precision, building tannin, and a big finish. I'll most likely taste this again from barrel next year, but it's unquestionably going to be a great wine. An estate I wasn’t familiar with, I was blown away by the wines of Macauley Vineyard. After doing some research, I found out that the wines are made by Kirk Venge, so mystery solved. These are awesome wines, and savvy readers need to leap on this bandwagon.

A barrel sample, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Stagecoach offers up a cassis, earth, herbs, violets and cedar nose with hints of Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied with firm, grainy tannins, lively acid and vibrant fruit, it finishes long and earthy.
