Tasting notes
The 2006 Gramercy Cellars Syrah "Lagniappe" is a blend of 97% Syrah and 3% co-fermented Viognier, and is intended to show the cooler climate, slightly higher acid profile of Syrah. The wine has great aromatics, possessing a slightly wild edge with meaty, olive, and tapenade like notes giving way to brighter aromas of flowers, violets, and raspberry driven fruit. Fresh and lively on the palate, with good acidity, a classy, overall elegant profile, and solid length to the finish, this outstanding Syrah is drinking beautifully at present, but should continue to evolve and drink well for another decade.

(blended with 3% viognier; fermented with 40% whole clusters) Full, dark red. Aromas of boysenberry and fruity peppercorn, plus a whiff of licorice. Supple and velvety but adamantly dry, with pungent herb and spice flavors currently dominating the berry fruit in the mid-palate. Plump in the middle but quite firm on the back end, with a hint of bitter fruit skin. A grown-up style that should be flexible at the dinner table.
