Score 97/100 · Drink 2021-2030, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Feb 2021

Coming from a cooler site in south Napa, the 2009 Proprietary Red Sugarloaf Mountain "The Whitney" is a blend of 50/50 Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Deep garnet in color with a touch of brick, it sings of baked black and red plums, Black Forest cake and Christmas pudding with nuances of tobacco, bay leaf and eucalyptus oil. Full-bodied, the concentrated, generously fruited palate is jam-packed with black fruit preserves and loads of red fruit accents, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and finishing long with a gorgeous floral perfume. 96 cases were made.
