Aromatically, the 2001 Corton-Charlemagne bursts with a plethora of spices. A well-focused effort, it reveals delineated flavors of crisp pears, nuts, spices, and gravel. Medium-bodied and lively, it exhibits a long, buttered juniper berry-filled, detailed finish. Projected maturity: 2005-2012. (in tank following racking) Cool aromas of flowers, mint and citrus skin; distinctly more malic than the 2000. Juicy but quite firm-edged, even a bit hard, with acidity currently dominating the wine's fruit. Perhaps livelier than the 2000, but slower to evolve and more difficult to assess at this stage.
