Very intense nose and quite jagged and austere at the moment – unusual for 2017! Lots of tannin. Rather a classically built wine that may please those who find most 2017s a bit too much of a good thing. Quite a throb on the end. (JR)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru matures with 25% whole bunches and 60% new oak. It has a very harmonious and expressive bouquet with exuberant scents of black cherries, kirsch, strawberry and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, very well focused with a discrete mintiness towards the tensile finish. Excellent.
