Tasting notes
Brilliant violet. Ripe dark berries, cherry liqueur, olive paste and incense on the highly perfumed nose; a smoky mineral element adds vivacity. Energetic blackberry, bitter cherry and candied violet flavors show excellent clarity, and a spicecake nuance builds with air. The smooth, smoke-tinged finish emphatically repeats the floral and olive notes, and supple tannins build steadily, merging smoothly with the juicy fruit.

From estate vineyards (they own 4 hectares around Tournon), the 2015 Saint-Joseph is a beautiful Syrah offering notes of black raspberries, blueberries, peppery herbs, and violet aromas and flavors. With a touch of olive emerging with time in the glass, medium to full-bodied richness, fine tannin, and a beautiful finish, it's a seamless, elegant wine that shows how special 2015 was for the northern Rhône.
Cask sample. Tasted blind. Amazingly ripe and with just a bit of raw acidity too. Sweet and sour rather than a gorgeous whole now but it may all come together? (JR)
