Tasting notes
Crushed flowers, sweet red cherries, savory herbs and anise lift from the glass in La Follette' s 2012 Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard. Floral, savory and slightly gamy notes abound in a very pretty and highly expressive Pinot Noir from Sonoma Mountain. Saline notes support the slightly clenched finish. With air, the 2012 can be enjoyed today, but it also has enough depth to age nicely for at least a few more years. Despite its mid-weight personality, the 2012 delivers plenty of intensity and persistence to match its somewhat eccentric personality.

The 2012 Pinot Noir Van der Kamp Vineyard comes from a north-facing, mountain site planted at 1,400 feet. I was first exposed to this site when the Pinot was being made at Landmark Vineyards. This 2012 exhibits a deep, French Pommard-like character with an earthy, muscular, masculine richness, and heady, sweet, jammy cherries and redcurrants. Full of personality, it cuts a big swath across the palate, but has no hard edges. This complex, fleshy, succulent, sexy beauty can be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years.
