Score 87/100 · Drink 2005-2012, Robert Parker, Jun 2005

Falset’s 2001 Laurona, a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Carignan, reveals a deep ruby/purple color along with a straightforward, monolithic personality, medium to full body, plenty of flavor and depth, rustic tannin, a degree of austerity, but good ripeness, purity, and character. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. Importer: A Christopher Cannan Selection, various American importers including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (a blend of 30% garnacha, 30% cariñena, 15% syrah, 15% merlot and 10% cabernet sauvignon) Bright, dark red. Very spicy aromas of bitter cherry, redcurrant, tree bark, tobacco, licorice, mint, meat and fresh herbs. Juicy, penetrating and pure, with concentrated, slightly medicinal but thoroughly ripe flavors of cherry, raspberry and tobacco. Dense, bright and concentrated, with very good framing acidity; expanded nicely with aeration and showed increasing plumpness. Finishes with elegant, fine tannins and lingering sweetness of fruit. May ultimately merit an even higher score.
