Score 89/100 · Drink 2022-2029, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jan 2022

The 2018 Pouilly-Fumé La Loge aux Moines Monopole opens clear, pretty rich and matured, with caramelly, candied apple and tropical fruit notes as well as yeasty aromas. Full-bodied, enormously rich and powerful on the palate, it is fine and elegant at first but then a bit broad and surely fiery, lacking the finesse and freshness we might expect from this appellation or even the dramatic course of La Loge. Arnaud Moreaux admits that the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, something that he never aims for but is willing to accept, if done naturally. The 2018 is still a very good or even excellent wine from a terribly hot and dry vintage. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2022.
