Tasting notes
Ciro Biondi's 2014 Etna Rosso Cisterna Fuori Contrada Ronzini shines a spotlight on this specific vineyard site. This traditional blend of 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio (vinified in stainless steel and then aged in 225-liter and 500-liter barrels) offers a softer and rounder interpretation of an Etna red wine. It shows primary aromas of wild berry and blueberry. Beyond those fruit tones are subtle mineral notes of brimstone and granite with pressed violets and bitter almond as well. Some 8,000 bottles were produced.

Cask sample. Mid crimson. Beguiling nose of cherry, raspberry and baking spice. Lots of fine, powdery tannins and gorgeous, elegant fruit. Already delicious, yet serious stuff, and ideally deserves another year in bottle to show its best. (WS)
