Tasting notes
I have the same complaint with the 2012 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard, yet it has slightly better integration, depth and overall balance. Giving up pretty strawberry and cherry notes intermixed with spice, crushed flowers and fruit tart nuances, it’s a rounded, supple and delicious effort that will drink nicely over the coming 3-5 years. The 2012 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard Santa Maria Valley is gorgeous. Orange peel, lavender and exotic spices meld into a core of expressive dark red/blue-toned fruit. Vibrant and finely chiseled to the core, the 2012 stands out for its energy and sense of precision. Everything speaks to nuance.
Bright ruby. Deeply pitched black raspberry, cola, incense and floral aromas show a borderline decadent character and pick up a smoky nuance with air. Smooth, sweet and sappy on the palate, offering intense red and dark berry flavors and a sexy floral pastille quality. Finishes smooth and very long, with soft tannins and lingering smokiness.
