Tasting notes
Somber, powerful and deeply layered, the 2018 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard is still an adolescent. Blackberry, clove, black licorice and menthol convey an air of gravitas. Chalky tannins will take even more time to subsume, but what strikes me most is the 2018’s supreme elegance in the face of such seriousness. The finish brightens up as floral nuances gradually recede. This is the whole package.

A deep jeweled red color, the 2018 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard comes from this exceptional site with more gravelly soils. On the nose, it offers gorgeous notes of kirsch, fresh flowers, woodsy earth, and fresh herbs. The palate takes on more youthful tension and grip, with generous ripeness, and balanced finesse and purity. It has fantastic longevity and potential and is really starting to display a gorgeous level of complexity at this stage, just a few years after its initial release. Drink 2024-2040.
Deep magenta. Expressive cherry, black raspberry, vanilla and Asian spice qualities on the deeply perfumed nose; a vibrant mineral element emerges with aeration. Silky, sweet and energetic on the palate, offering concentrated, spice-laced cherry cola, dark berry and floral pastille flavors and a suave floral nuance. In a powerful yet graceful style, showing impressive clarity and smooth, rounded tannins on the strikingly long, floral- and spice-tinged finish.
Medium ruby, the 2018 Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard is broody with scents of dark cherry jam, Earl Grey tea, earth and tobacco with touches of violet. The palate is medium-bodied and takes its time to flesh out to all that lush fruit and spicy nuance. It's firmer than the other wines in this lineup but has a pleasant graininess and a long, fresh finish. Give it another couple years in bottle.
