Score 91-92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2005
Good fresh ruby color. Superripe but vibrant aromas of kirsch, cassis and bitter chocolate. Quite pure and primary, with a suggestion of tiny-berry concentration. A very dense fruit bomb of a zinfandel, but not yet fat or particularly complex, as the wine's vibrant finishing acidity and molar-coating tannins currently dominate. This hugely tannic wine is particularly rich in anthocyanins, says Peterson, and should be long-lived. This vineyard is close to Old Hill Ranch but is planted entirely to zinfandel.
