Deep red-ruby. Primal aromas of blackberry skin, espresso, violet, licorice and dark chocolate. Sweet, scented and highly concentrated, with an exotic flavor of fruity dark chocolate. More aromatic and more sharply delineated than the Clos de la Roche. Finishes with firm but harmonious tannins and superb subtle persistence.

The highly expressive aromas of the 2002 Clos St.-Denis display blackberries, spices, and cinnamon. This huge, sensual, sweet, soft wine has exceptional depth, purity, and concentration. Deep ruby-red. Reticent nose dominated by espresso. Fat, sweet and very ripe, but without the obvious power of the Clos de la Roche; full in the mouth but still quite young, even a bit youthfully tough. Today this comes across as a bit unrefined next to the Clos de la Roche, with more red fruits and gunflint than floral character. But this wine finished its malo later and needs time. Magnien planned to bottle it in March of 2004.
