Score 95/100 · Drink 2018-2035, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Aug 2018

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2007 Padrone reveals a gorgeous perfume of Chinese five spice, mincemeat pie, roasted nuts, tobacco and dried lavender with a core of warm black plums, blackcurrant cordial and warm black berries plus wafts of menthol and dried Provence herbs. Full-bodied, rich and opulent in the mouth, the palate has matured into a wonderful array of tertiary flavors with loads of savory and exotic spice accents, framed by firm, grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing with amazing persistence.

(15.3% alcohol): Full medium ruby. Black cherry, bitter chocolate, licorice and fresh herbs on the nose, accented by violet and minerals. Very concentrated and a bit bound-up, with slightly medicinal cassis and bitter chocolate flavors showing an herbal element along with excellent mineral grip. The tannins are a bit tough but in balance with the wine's strong fruit. This wine still needs a bit more time to open.

(15.3% alcohol; 84% cabernet sauvignon with 8% each merlot and cabernet franc; from low-yielding vines on rocky soil at the top of the vineyard): Full red-ruby. Musky plum, currant, mocha and roasted herbs on the nose. Then serious, concentrated and fine-grained, with a restrained sweetness and good acid lift to the cassis and licorice flavors. A very suave blend with intriguing soil-driven minerality. Finishes with a thick dusting of tannins. This impressive wine wears its high alcohol rather gracefully.
