The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaley Elizabeth, blended with about 6% Cabernet Franc, has a deep garnet-purple color and opens with pronounced blackcurrant pastilles, baked blackberries and plum preserves notes with hints of sautéed herbs, damp soil, underbrush, espresso and licorice. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers loads of savory and baked black fruit layers with plenty of herbal sparks and a chewy frame, finishing long and savory. (LPB) 93+

A killer effort from Jeff Ames is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kaley Elizabeth. One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon from clone 7, this is a beauty, aged in a combination of new Taransaud and Darnajou cooperage. Inky, opaque blue/purple in color with notes of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, creosote, charcoal and graphite, the wine is full-bodied, multilayered, deep, powerful, concentrated and moderately tannic. Give this wine 5-8 years of bottle age and drink over the following 35-40+ years, as it is a keeper.
