Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2006

Medium red. Musky, reduced aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, meat, smoke and underbrush. Big, fat and smooth; velvety and soft. Could use more definition but this is a big mouthful of exotic, smoky wine, with sexy oak spices of star anise and clove. Finishes with lush tannins and very good length. This, along with the Clos Pepe Vineyard bottling, is the highest in alcohol of the current Loring releases at 15.2% but a few of the others are listed as 15.1%
