The 2021 Chardonnay Volpert Vineyard has a soft, detailed perfume of peach, nectarine and lemon verbena with accents of hazelnut cream and crème brûlée. The light-bodied palate is ethereal and precise, offering expressive savory and citrus flavors. It’s balanced by linear acidity and has a long, silky finish.

Comparing this to the Volterre bottling from the same vineyard that Matt Courtney is also producing, the 2021 Chardonnay Volpert Vineyard has more reductive tendency in this bottling and takes on vibrant, driven notes of wet stone, flint, fresh pear, and quince, and lime blossoms. Medium-bodied, it has a weightless feel and is long on the palate, with a soft floral touch on the finish and a light savory saline note. Drink 2025-2035.
The 2021 Chardonnay Volpert Vineyard, all Mt. Eden Clone, is a fabulous debut. Creamy and ample, the 2021 captures all the magic of Taylor Lane, but with an added kick of mid-palate creaminess that helps the wine avoid some of the bracing youthful austerity wines from this part of the West Sonoma Coast often show. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers and a kiss of French oak build into the resonant, expansive finish.
