Tasting notes
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ravens, from a three-acre vineyard north of Calistoga, offers up plenty of spicy St.-Estephe-like earthiness and loamy soil notes, deep, rich, concentrated blackcurrant fruit with roasted herbs and underbrush. It combines both elegance and power in a relatively big, ripe style. As one might expect from three acres, only about 350 cases were produced. Drink now-2028.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon The Ravens Vineyard is a powerful, voluptuous wine built on pure structure. Far from an easygoing 2012, the Ravens is going to need time in bottle to settle down and mellow a bit. Pine, mint, red stone fruits, savory herbs, iron and an assortment of distinctly ferrous notes are woven into a fabric of real class. The pulsating, explosive finish is utterly irresistible, but the best is still at least a few years away. This is impressive juice.
