Score 90/100 · Drink 2003-2008, Robert Parker, Aug 2003

The second label of Jeff Pisoni, this outstanding Syrah exhibits a gorgeous deep ruby/purple color in addition to a stunning bouquet of bacon fat, ground pepper, cola, black cherries, and cassis. Medium to full-bodied and dense, with ripe, rich fruit as well as impeccable balance, it should be consumed over the next 4-5 years. Tel. (800) 270-2525

(this is not from Pisoni estate fruit) Saturated medium-deep ruby. Crushed blackberry, smoked meat, tar and mint on the rather low-toned nose. Flavors of raw dark berries, chocolate and pepper, with harmonious acidity leavening the wine's thickness. Like a heavier version of St. Joseph. Finishes with strong torrefaction notes. Not a particularly subtle style of syrah.
