Foxen's 2013 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard is deep and powerful, but also compact, with less of the distinctive personality that is typical of this site. Perhaps the 2013 will come together in time, but today I see a wild, gamy Pinot with limited finesse. Taken on its own terms, the John Sebastiano is solid, but my sense is it could have been so much more.

Another terrific Pinot Noir, the 2013 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard was 100% destemmed and spent 17 months in 50% new French oak. Full-bodied, rich, mouth filling and beautifully textured, with surprising underlying structure, it offers tons of minerality, ground herbs and sweet Pinot Noir fruit on both the nose and palate. Shining for its seamless texture and purity of fruit, it still needs a year or two in the cellar, but will keep through 2023.
