The 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru bursts with sweet aromas of cherries, licorice, peonies, baking spices, violets and blood orange, reflecting its vinification with lots of whole bunches. Full-bodied, ample and perfumed, it's supple and melting, with a charming, demonstrative profile and a saline finish. This will drink well out of the gates.
There is just one and a half barrels of the 2021 Echézeaux Grand Cru, the métayage with Arnaud Mortet in En Orveau that contains 100% whole bunches. To be honest, here I found the stems occlude the terroir expression and dominate too much. They seem more integrated on the palate that is well defined and focused, yet it misses some depth and grip towards the finish. I have preferred some other vintages in recent years.
