Tasting notes
Bright ruby. Exotically perfumed aromas of cherry-cola, five-spice powder, cinnamon, tobacco and smoked meat, with a sexy floral quality gaining strength with air. Deeply concentrated dark berry compote flavors are framed by supple tannins and brightened by Asian spices and minerals. The tannins carry through the finish but don't interfere with the wine's sweet, juicy, very persistent berry qualities. Give this a couple more years in the bottle.

The 2006 Big Basin Rattlesnake vineyard Syrah is a dense, structured wine with fantastic aromatics of smoked meat, tobacco, dark fruit and striking minerality. The palate is medium to full bodied, rich, tannic and structured. This needs time.
The dense purple-hued 2006 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock exhibits high tannins as well as a primary character, and its component parts are not yet fully assimilated. There is plenty of intensity, power, and rich blackberry fruit intermixed with some minerality and damp earth, but the wine is backward and unevolved. At present, these three wines reveal a certain disjointedness suggestive of young barrel samples. Tel. (831) 621-8028; Fax (831) 338-8050
