Tasting notes
Wow, just a gorgeous wine, the 2007 Denner Syrah (90% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre) possesses a deep purple color, as well as brilliant aromatics of ripe blackberries, smoke, meat juice, whiffs of black pepper, and subtle floral notes. Suave, layered, and rich on the nose, it’s medium to full bodied on the palate with a full texture, great concentration, and a long, structured finish. This beautifully balanced, full flavored Syrah should drink well for a decade or more.

(includes 10% grenache and 5% mourvedre) Opaque ruby. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of blackberry, cherry-cola, anise, violet and incense. Broad and palate-coating, offering sweet dark fruit preserve flavors and exotic floral pastille notes. Becomes spicier with air and finishes with very good sweetness, velvety tannins and a lingering floral quality.
Also brilliant, the 2007 Syrah Denner Vineyard offers abundant aromas of creme de cassis, blackberries, white chocolate, and graphite. It is a deep, full-bodied, impressively endowed effort to consume over the next 7-8 years. Sadly, I did not see a 2008 Viognier from Denner as I was fond of previous vintages of this cuvee, particularly the 2007. If you can still find any, some Denner wines I was blown away by last year include the 2007 Grenache and 2007 The Ditch Digger Proprietary Blend (37% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 26% Mourvedre, 5% Counoise, and 3% Cinsault).
