Tasting notes
The same blend as the En Demi-muid yet aged 20 months in French oak uprights, the 2008 Le Cigare Volant En Foudre is supple and sweetly fruited, with the most rounded and soft texture of the three different Le Cigare Volant releases. Olive, black herbs and black cherry fruit all emerge from the glass and it, too, is a solid effort. Drink now-2016. Tel. (831) 425-4518; www.bonnydoonvineyard.com

Bonny Doon's 2008 Le Cigare Volant is quite pretty. Sweet dark cherries, licorice and flowers flesh out in this juicy red. The 2008 is approximately 45% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 13% Mourvèdre and 7% Cinsault. Interestingly, this regular bottling of the Cigare Volant shows a bit more sweetness and length than the Reserve En Bonbonne.

Meaty, juicy, jammy, spicy – quite an assault! Finishes with plenty of tannin and weight. (RH)
