Tasting notes
(13.7% alcohol; from a vineyard at 900 feet, in the foothills of Atlas Peak; includes small percentages of merlot and cabernet franc): Full ruby-red. Aromas of medicinal black cherry, licorice and cocoa powder are lifted by a violet topnote. At once silky-sweet and juicy, with a firm edge of acidity brightening the flavors of cassis, violet, spices and oaky torrefaction. Harmonious and nicely ripe for the vintage, with firm tannins that avoid dryness. Denis Malbec noted that this cabernet is typically riper and less minerally and tight than his cabernet from Howell Mountain.

The dark ruby/purple-colored 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Cuvee l’Etrier has good fruit and depth for a 2011, a short finish, and a pleasant, early maturing style that should drink well over the next 7-8 years. These are the products of Bordeaux’s well-known wine consultant, Denis Malbec, and his wife, May-Britt. www.notrevinwines.com
