Score 94/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

A step up over the 2015, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard offers slightly more purity and freshness. Blueberries, cassis, dried flowers, violets, and incense notes all soar from this beauty and it’s ripe, decadent and sexy, yet has ample mid-palate density and ripe tannin. It’s a compelling, seamless, layered beauty to drink over the coming 15+ years. I loved both the 2014s and 2015s from Lewelling, but have to give the nod to the 2015s, which have that extra dimension.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight ratchets up the concentration level. The fruit is deeper, denser, the wine slightly fuller-bodied, but nevertheless shares the same style of licorice, crème de cassis, cedar wood and well-integrated, subtle oak. It is a full-bodied classic from Napa that should drink nicely for 20 or more years. The poor person’s Screaming Eagle?
