Tasting notes
Showing better from bottle than barrel, the 2013 Seventeen Forty Reserve is 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, all of which saw 20 months in 70% new French oak. It's an elegant, seamless wine that has top tier purity, fine, fine tannin and classy notes of spring flowers, underbrush, cassis, sweet oak and licorice. Like the other 2013s here, it has the purity and texture to shine in its youth, yet it should age gracefully.

Inky ruby. Vibrant blackberry, cherry-vanilla and incense aromas are complemented by candied licorice, pipe tobacco and smoky minerals. Plush, palate-coating dark berry preserve and vanilla flavors are energized by a jolt of peppery spices. Shows very good finishing clarity and cut, with gentle tannins adding shape and focus.
