Tasting notes
The 2021 Chardonnay Hapgood is scented of toasted meringue and apricot with accents of beeswax, cashew and citrus blossom. The light-bodied palate has a rounded texture which tempers its tangy acidity, and it has a deep core of youthfully reticent, saline-driven fruit. It will benefit from several years in bottle to unfold.

The 2021 Chardonnay Hapgood shows all the exotic beauty that is typical of Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnays. Ample and rich, the 2021 has gorgeous density and depth. Floral top notes lift the finish. The combination of Hyde clone Chardonnay planted on sand in a cold pocket yields a wine of tremendous distinction and class. I loved it.
Vivid gold-hued, the 2021 Chardonnay Hapgood has a brilliant nose of caramelized lemons, honeyed green almond, and chalky minerality. This richly textured, full-bodied Chardonnay offers integrated acidity, beautiful overall balance, and a powerful yet still seamless, elegant profile that's a joy to drink. As usual with Greg’s wines, these wines are not destemmed and are brought up all in neutral barrels. Most of the Chardonnays check in around 14% alcohol, with the Pinot Noirs between 14%-14.5%, and they all have singular characters as well as a decade of longevity at a minimum. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better lineup of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from anyone in California.
