Tasting notes
Pale-medium yellow. High-pitched aromas of orange zest, nutmeg, talc and dusty stone, with a suggestion of exotic fruits. Dense and chewy but fine-grained and bright, conveying a strong impression of extract. With its deep, intense fruit and mineral flavors, this chardonnay offers considerable immediate appeal, but it also possesses firm backbone for mid-term aging. Very long, palate-dusting finish. "The Hirsch and Hudson vineyards produce very tasty grapes when they get thoroughly ripe," notes Bixler. This one offers glorious chardonnay fruit.

A new offering, the 2002 Chardonnay Hirsch Vineyard reveals aromas of lemon zest and earth along with big, rich, full-bodied flavors revealing hints of honeyed grapefruit, lemons, and white peaches. Built for the long haul, with considerable intensity, it should drink well for 7-8 years. (Not yet released) Tel. (707) 823-5603; Fax (707) 823-6709
About the producer

Kistler’s Chardonnays are some of the world’s most sought-after. This cult Californian producer crafts small volumes of exceptional, rich and generous, yet mineral and precise wines. With almost the entire production sold directly to their mailing list, the wines are also incredibly hard to find.
