The dense ruby/purple-colored 1998 Syrah Estate (615 cases) offers a straightforward bouquet of sweet black cassis, a nice texture, and a fleshy, generous finish. It is the fullest, richest effort of the 1998s. Tel. (707) 823-2378; Fax (707) 823-0918

Deep saturated ruby. Extremely primary aromas of raspberry and black pepper; conveys a hint of rawness, like a young syrah from the Northern Rhone Valley. Less weighty than the '97 but more intensely flavored and more aromatic in the mouth. Intriguing pepper and black olive flavors continue the Northern Rhone theme. This fruit was harvested very late, while the '97 ripened earlier, under what Dehlinger described as "stressfully warm weather."
