Score 89/100 · Drink 2003-2011, Robert Parker, Dec 2003
The 2000 Syrah Estate (540 cases) exhibits a complex bouquet of blackberries, currants, plums, licorice, and a hint of chocolate. It is dense, medium to full-bodied, and meaty, with notions of leather and earth as well as firm tannin in the finish. It should drink well young, and age for 7-8 years. Tel. Very good ruby-red color. More aromatic, varietally expressive nose combines red berries, smoked meat, pepper, mint and herbs. Juicier and tighter-grained than the Goldridge syrah, with bright acidity. Still quite fruit-driven and possessing only moderate complexity. Finishes with more structure and grip, though, with somewhat finer tannins.
