Score 92/100 · Drink 2006-2014, Robert Parker, Dec 2006

The 2003 Syrah Estate (460 cases) is a selection of the vineyard’s finest fruit. It exhibits more concentration as well as additional nuances of acacia flowers and meat. With a terrific texture, loads of blackberries as well as glycerin, and a heady finish, it should drink well for 7-8 years. Tel. (707) 823-2378; Fax (707) 823-0918

Deep ruby-red. Riper aromas of black fruits, chocolate, truffle and licorice. Nicely concentrated and bright; a coulis of fruits in the mouth, with complicating mineral and pepper notes. Fairly large-scaled syrah, and capable of mid-term aging. This is actually the highest in acidity of these 2003 releases. Dehlinger told me he likes the 2002 vintage best of the 2001-2003 trio, but this is very good. (I also tasted the 1992 version of this bottling to end my tasting here. While less rich than today's wines, this old bottle still possessed plenty of energy, some peppery and minty high tones, and good length. It finished with an intriguing taste of woodsmoke and a slightly decadent old Bordeaux aspect.)
