Tasting notes
The 2005 Volnay Brouillards – from young vines – combines attractive candied black raspberry with vanilla and caramel suggestions (presumably from its roughly one-quarter new wood), gives a sweet but texturally rather spare palate impression, and displays a finish of sweet raspberry, toasted nuts, and pan drippings that seems to dry out a bit prematurely, perhaps on account of its recent bottling. Good bright, deep red. Aromas of cherry, spices and herbs. Supple, sweet and plump; a very ripe, gentle style. I find myself wishing for more depth and force. This fruit appears to have been picked late.
About the producer

Volnay’s Domaine de Montille is one of the most historic in the Côte d’Or. Founded in 1730, the property remains family-owned and run, with Etienne de Montille – the ninth generation – at the helm today.
