From the commune of St-Privat. Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Mellow, supple, ripe nose. Not an attention-grabber but a very solid representative of what the Languedoc has to offer. Slightly rustic tannins. Medium weight with a bit of a hole in the middle. A slight bitterness on the end of the black-fruit flavour. (JR)

Brothers Jean-Yves and Pierre-André are the sixth generation of Ournacs to produce wines here. Like other growers in the area, they have progressively replanted their vineyards over the last 15 years, replacing many traditional varieties with Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier. The vines are grown on clay-chalk soils and part of the property qualifies for the Minervois appellation. Vigorous and dense and sweet. Rich and very much a cocktail, a well-melded cocktail. Bite of terroir on the end. Certainly not hot. (JR)

Matured in demi-muids for a year, the 2016 Terrasses du Larzac is a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Carignan and 20% Syrah. Despite the oak élevage, there's no obvious toast or vanilla, just pure scents of black cherry fruit and hints of garrigue (thyme and bay) in this medium to full-bodied, supple, silky offering.
