Score 89/100 · Drink 2013-2017, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2013

In comparison, the 2010 Pinot Noir Soberanes Vineyard is a home run. Offering plenty of spice, underbrush and potpourri, as well as a beautiful core of dark berry fruit, it is a medium to full-bodied, rich effort that shows a dry edge to its tannin. It’s quite good, but should most likely be consumed over the coming 3-4 years. Drink now-2017. Tel. (415) 923-0277; www.blackkitecellars.com

(raised in 50% new oak): Ruby-red. Smoky, deeply pitched aromas of black raspberry and cherry, with hints of lavender and licorice in the background. Sappy and concentrated, offering sweet dark berry and bitter cherry flavors and a seamless, velvety texture. Gains energy and spiciness with air and finishes with bright mineral snap and a lingering note of candied rose. For a rich, deeply flavored wine this shows a surprisingly light touch. (JR)
