A dense, saturated dark ruby/purple color suggests fine intensity and ripeness. Sweet berry fruit intermixed with vanillin, herbs, and spices emerges from the wine's aromatics. Medium-bodied, with good richness and purity, and a soft, fleshy attack, this stylish, concentrated wine should prove to be excellent. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2012.

The 1994 La Croix de Gay has more vivacity on the nose than the 1993, with dark berry, cooked meat, sloe and fruitcake scents, although it does not have the delineation of a top vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a little hardness on the entry. It's foursquare in the mouth with slightly aggressive dry tannins toward the finish that mellow with aeration. This is similar in style to the 1993 but with more to offer. Tasted June 2011. Tasting note taken from the Pomerol book by Neal Martin.

Good medium red. Sappy cherry, mineral and lead pencil aromas. Penetrating cherry flavor, with hints of earth and tobacco. A leaner style of Pomerol, showing some slightly dry wood tannins on the finish. As with the '95, there's a faint sour edge.
