Bright violet color. Ripe black raspberry, dark chocolate and licorice aromas, with a hint of cracked pepper. Juicy dark berry and roasted plum flavors are a bit hard-edged and betray some warmth. The pepper and plum note repeats on the finish, as does the touch of warmth. This could use more freshness.

The 2007 Syrah Purisima Mountain Vineyard, which is fruity, soft, and seductive in a light-bodied manner. It is best drunk over the next several years. One of the Central Coast’s pioneers for Rhone varietals is Bob Lindquist’s Qupe winery. Tel. (805) 688-2477
