Meaty and a touch wild, with a slight Côte-Rôtie flair, the single vineyard 2006 Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier Shiraz Lieu dit Malakoff is 100% Shiraz that’s age for 12 months in all French oak. The wine has beautifully complex aromatics of sour cherries, lavender, smoked bacon fat, and solid minerality that comes through with more with air. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied and beautifully focused and delineated, possessing racy acidity, a fresh, supple texture, and a clean, completely dry finish. This holds up well with air (this bottle was followed for 3 days) and should have a fairly substantial drink window; I wouldn’t be surprised to see this still going strong at 10 to 12 years of age. Impressive and for those that lean towards the more northern Rhône styled wines, well worth seeking out!
