Tasting notes
Inky ruby. Mineral-accented blackcurrant and blueberry aromas are complemented by cured tobacco, violet and smoked meat. Really expands across the palate, showing a nervy tone and bright dark berry and floral pastille flavors. With aeration, this gains a sweet oak spice note that harmonizes nicely with the sexy dark fruit qualities. Light tannins add structure. Quite elegant, and balanced to repay at least a few years in the cellar.

The 2004 El Vell Coster (the old slope) is a 1000 bottle cuvee of 100% Mazuelo from 60-year-old vines aged in French oak for 12 months. Purple-colored, this unique wine has attractive aromas of mineral, damp earth, pencil lead, blackberry, and blueberry. With a firm entry, the wine is structured on the palate with layers of sweet, ripe fruit, soft tannins, and a sense of elegance despite its size. The wine has excellent delineation leading to a long, pure finish. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. Importer: Classical Wines, Seattle, WA; tel. (206) 297-6713
