(a blend of 65% syrah, 25% mourvedre and 10% grenache) Deep ruby-red. Complex nose melds meaty black fruits, violet and licorice. Broad and sappy, with ripe acids and firm minerality framing and lifting the black fruit flavors. Offers a lovely restrained sweetness. There's something Cote-Rotie-like about this blend. Finishes with nicely managed tannins and excellent persistence.

Readers looking for a more tangy, tart, crisp red should check out the 2004 Avenger, a blend of 65% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre, and 10% Grenache. It exhibits loads of black and blue fruits, an uplifted, cool climate palate feel, zesty acidity, and admirable texture as well as freshness in the mouth.
