Tasting notes
The 2006 Avenger, from three of the great limestone vineyards of Paso Robles (Booker, Denner, and James Berry), is a blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre, and 20% Grenache. It is another sexy, up-front wine, displaying plenty of juiciness, a dense ruby/purple color, and a floral, blackberry, and black currant nose with hints of forest floor, underbrush, pepper, and spice. This beauty should drink nicely for 5-6 years. It brilliantly hides its relatively high alcohol level of 15.6%. Tel. (805) 238-7145; Fax (805) 238-7514

(50% syrah, 30% mourvedre and 20% grenache) Ruby with a bright rim. Dark cherry, cassis, baking spices, violet and black tea on the nose. Spicy red and dark berry flavors gain sweetness with air, picking up an exotic floral pastille quality. Deeper cherry compote and bitter chocolate notes linger on the long, sappy finish. I like this wine's blend of richness and energy.
