Sweet oak – not quite intrusive but certainly has a starring role at this stage. Lovely cherry and redcurrant fruit with just enough tannic fur to give fuzzy texture but allow drinkability now. Gentle floral perfume – but from petals that are still tightly furled. (RH)

Brilliant red. Fresh cherry and raspberry on the nose, complicated by candied rose, licorice and musky earth flourishes. Juicy, finely etched red berry and bitter cherry flavors show very good energy, and a deeper, sweeter suggestion of cola emerges with aeration. Closes on a bright, spicy note, with sneaky tannins lending framework and grip.

Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2015 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir is still a little youthfully shy, revealing notes of black cherries and black raspberries with suggestions of violets and sautéed herbs. Medium-bodied, with lovely elegance and expression in the mouth, it has a fine backbone of silky tannins and plenty of latent layers just poking through on the persistent finish.
