(the first vintage for this bottling): Good medium red. Sappy raspberry and red cherry on the nose. Round, fat and silky; nicely dry and broad if a bit youthfully reticent today. Strong red fruit, spice and earth elements carry nicely on the subtly persistent aftertaste.

An addition to the range, Failla's 2012 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard, is fabulous. Dark red stone fruit, smoke tobacco and licorice jump from the glass in a vivid, structured Pinot endowed with stunning depth and nuance. The balance of fruit and minerality is simply compelling. Winemakers continue to be attracted to Savoy, Cliff Lede's vineyard in Anderson Valley. Few have made such a gorgeous wine on their first try. This is a great start from Failla.
