Tasting notes
Glass-staining ruby. Vibrant aromas of black cherry, cassis, violet, pepper and licorice pastille. Tightly wound and unevolved right now, but shows impressively energetic, high-pitched flavors of black cherry and dark berries, with undertones of licorice and violet. A very rich wine with impressive mineral spine. The pungent, violet-tinged finish shows varietally accurate notes of blackcurrant, red berries and olive and clings with excellent clarity.

Classic notes of graphite, tapenade, blackberries, and cassis dominate the deep ruby/purple-hued 2005 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard’s aromatics. Structured and muscular with abundant tannins as well as superb concentration, it will benefit from several years of cellaring, and should keep for 15+. It is by far the most northern Rhone Hermitage-like of these 2005s. Tel. (805) 649-1674
Much more distinguished and appetising than the Santa Barbara 2006 though still pretty sweet and concentrated. Lots of personality and leatheriness here. Long. (JR)
Inky purple. Highly expressive nose displays pungent cherry and cassis, raw steak, violet and graphite. Deeply flavored and fresh, with bright dark berry notes, vibrant minerality and silky tannins. Spicy and brisk on the finish, leaving a suave trail of dark berries, aged beef and candied flowers. Impressively complex and persistent syrah with striking purity and depth.
